Notes: Growing on needles. Caps up to 3 cm, no separable pellicle. Stem lubricous, but not really viscid (collected in the rain). Odor mildly farinaceous. Gills fragile.
Spores 7-9 × 3.5-5.5. Basidia 4-spored, 27+3 x 8. Cheilocystidia forming a sterile band, hard to extricate, variously shaped and branched. No pleurocystidia seen. Clamps in all tissues.
Interesting that drawings in Maas G and Smith show differently shaped cheilocystidia, and both can be seen in this collection (on a single mount). The noticable caulocystidia are not mentioned in references.
I’m not certain about the id, but what I recently called piceicola in Observation 218423 may easily be something different.
Other species considered: pusilla (smaller), cinerella (gills typically decurrent, stem viscid).
