The stipe is fibrous, does not snap.

You’re right. The stipe does not snap like a Russula. The gills crumble off the cap which is why I thought of Russula.

Interesting that the stipe snaps.

I was about to propose “Tricholoma”. Is the context in the stipe at all stringy/fibrous? It looks like the stipe is splitting apart.
