Observation 221596: Psilocybe (Fr.) P. Kumm.
When: 2015-11-01

Notes: Fruiting in the same 4 foot wide patch of grass, hay and manure as the observations linked below-

Similar to P. semilanceata but much larger, with somewhat reddish brown tones to cap apex at maturity, at maturity caps expanding but not nearly plane, semilanceate without central point or knob at apex; gills are somewhat free at maturity, cap margin on young specimens has a distinct whitish band that seems to turn purple brown and greenish once aging to fully mature. Wrinkled cap margin at maturity-a similar behavior to some collections of P.baecystis. The ubiquitous characteristic “Semilanceate” helmet point on typical caps of P. semilanceata is missing with this species.

Collected multiple specimens for further study and spore analysis. Posts from last season with included microscopy from this exact square of grass are attached below.

Stipe: bright white, somewhat striated, bluing readily at bases when handled. Fluffy, vibrant hyphae networked at bases.

Fruiting in grass on the edge of a horse manure and hay pile.

Elevation: 3800ft.

Temp: near freezing, lightly snowing.
