Photos taken 12-5-2015. Harvested specimen was found on the ground beneath the host tree, apparently knocked off by someone. Pores surface yellow as seen in photos. I tried to get a glimpse of the undersides of ones left in situ. Looked to be slightly yellow.

Herb, I just posted a photo of the cross-section.

Photo taken in artificial light shows context in section and pore surface.

Context whitish, yellowish near the pore surface, leathery, very tough, difficult to cut.

Pores appear to show small spotty areas of pinkish brown stain. I rubbed the pore surface and it darkened slightly. Maybe by tomorrow morning this bruise will be more prominent?

Interesting. Is the pore surface staining pinkish? Can you provide a cross-section photo?

F. ochracea looks like a good possibility. There doesn’t seem to be much info readily available on this species, as it apparently was only recently described. I did not harvest any material, but I know exactly where it is. My guess is these are relatively young fruit bodies.
