Observation 222391: Polyporales sensu lato
When: 2015-11-08
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I can’t find much information on S. paradoxa! Here is what I know about this resupinate:

-Cream-colored, resupinate fruiting body on tanoak log
-Fluffy and abundant! Growing over Trametes in a few places. I thought it was a mycoparasite (still may be)
-KOH turns tissue black
-Cystidia somestimes capitate (swollen ends) or incrusted
-Spores white (or whitish, no print taken) and ellipsoid
-S. paradoxa spores should be smooth, but in Meltzer’s, these spores look minutely warty/ornamented

Recognized by sight: proposing the other genera on the basis of macromorphology. have not consulted a polypore text to see if either of their macromorphologies match, but it’s a place to start given the discrepancies with this fungus and the available descriptions of S. paradoxa.
