I was just talking with someone and they were telling me about how all the muscaria sub-species in N. America were going to be renamed A. amerimuscaria, with only one species on the west coast (I think) remaining the only “true” muscaria in N. America.

Now c’mon… that’s just too quick. Maybe by tomorrow it’ll be A. pennsylvaniamuscaria. Actually, I did a quick online search and A. amerimuscaria comes up as the reddish type which occurs primarily in the western USA. So, I think “guessowii” still works best with this one. Does the name A. amerimuscaria include a wide range of regional and or color variations for North American Flies?

BTW, this is probably the earliest in any given season that I’ve seen this mushroom species around here. Particularly surprising because we haven’t had the type of warm sunny weather that usually helps to get the summer shroom season going.

I suppose

I should have “guessed” that a new North America name may have replaced formosa.
