Observation 222836: Suillus acidus (Peck) Singer

No herbarium specimen

Notes:
In grass next to pines.
Two photos from Nov 4, others from Nov 12, in same spot.
Pore surface not readily staining, intesnsifying when bruised.
Pileipellis not disctinctly acidic to my taste.
Context yellowish tones – barely; pileus brown.
Suillus salmonicolor comes closest BR&B, though pileipillis not acrid, no sign of salmon color.

Suillus intermedius and Suillus subalutaceus are now considered synonyms. Suillus acidus, an older name is the currently accepted name for what was thought to be two species.
