Notes: Found in front yard, with small volval patches on cap, white gills, remains of volva at base. Not certain of host, but likely a low-growing shrub.

I get the impression that the ring may be free of the stem.

Does the ring slip up and down the stem?

If so, you might look to the lepiota-like groups (Lepiota in the old, broad sense).
