Observation 223328: Polyporales sensu lato

No herbarium specimen

Notes:
This one is new to me: a brown crusting THING on top of the bark of a fully alive red oak sapling, engulfing competing moss. It has the aspect of a lichen but it’s brown and a lichen expert said it’s not a lichen. That points toward some kind of resupinate crust polypore. So I collected some expecting to see some evidence of pores. Alas, no. At least not yet. Suggestions?
