Observation 223399: Hebeloma (Fr.) P. Kumm.

When: 2015-11-18

Collection location: Port Townsend, Washington, USA [Click for map]

Who: Wendy5 (Wendy5)

No specimen available

This 2” mushroom, orangish brown in the center of the cap with beige outline, was about 3" tall, was single, growing under Western Redcedar, and smelled like smoky chocolate. The stipe was stringy and easy to smash when I broke it off. Its spore print is also orangish brown.

Is there any way to make a guess about this mushroom besides agreeing it is gilled? I’m new at this, and need all the help I can get! Thanks!
