may have been caused by excessive rainfall. Still suspect Lycoperdon, but would be happy to be proved wrong.

Many if not most Calvatias have sterile bases.

Also, Lycoperdons open by way of an apical pore. Not the case here, as the endoperidium just completely (except for the base) disintegrates.

clearly shows a Lycoperdon with sterile base and chambered gleba, with many brown spores.
