Observation 2236: Lactarius subvillosus Hesler & A.H. Sm.
When: 2007-01-27
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I was able to spend time looking through the Lactarius section of the Agaricales of CA this weekend, and I am now pretty sure these are correct. I haven’t found or heard of these before last month, and again here they are this month.

The clean gills with no stains, the orange color, and the scurfy cap, with the fuzzy edges mark this species. It is close to a number of others, but differs from each in some important detail, so here it is.
