Observation 22396: Parasola conopilus group
When: 2009-05-08
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: very tall mushrooms, sometimes up to a foot tall, stem being thin and slender and very fragile. Caps hygraphonous turning from brown to a lighter beige color. Spore print was remarkably purple. Growing from soil and growing in abundance. I know it is probably not P. semilanceata but what is it?

These look nothing like P. semilanceata. For one, they are much smaller, grow in grass, especially pasture lands, do not grow at this time of year, and I do not know of a reliable account of P. semilanceata growing in San Francisco. They do grow in California, but the only collections I am aware of are from farther north and are rare.
