Observation 224306: Battarrea phalloides (Dicks.) Pers.
When: 2015-12-02
(20.6342° -156.4518° 1m)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This mushroom was the best specimen of a few that were trampled on Little Beach on the South Side of Maui, HI. I was absolutley mystified by the find, being that the cap was stranegly like styrofoam, the spores seemed to be dust coming from a dessicated cap, the stem was more like a dry stick, and the root popped off its base with a “ball-and-joint” configuration (the stem end being the ball). The stem is hollow, covered with long tendrils and scales and hair. Very odd specimen.
