Observation 2261: Russula olivacea (Schaeff.) Fr.

When: 2007-01-27

Collection location: Albion, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)

No specimen available

People were calling these R. xerampelina wanna-bees, they have purple tones to the cap, and pink in the stipe, yellowish gills, and are mild tasting. But there was no scent to these at all. I just wanted to all them R. xerampelina and move on, but most people didn’t think they were them. Dimtar comes in, and right away goes up to these and goes – R. olivacea, and good specimens too.
