Observation 22840: Fomitopsis cajanderi (P. Karst.) Kotl. & Pouzar

When: 2009-07-03

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

This violet-topped, white-pored polypore with somewhat elongated pores was growing on some pine (I think) logs in Zone 04. There seems to be an especial variety of colorful polypores in Zone 04, which has also fruited a similar small polypore with pink cap tones and cream pores, Fomitopsis pinicola (red top), Fomitopsis rosea (pink beneath), and Laetiporus sulphureus (yellow throughout).
