Observation 22859: Russula Pers.

When: 2009-07-03

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Notes:
Ah, my first russula of the year! Found in Zone 11 (natch) near the east-end main trail junction (visible in background in last photo; mushroom is at bottom).

Your basic red-capped Russula with white gills and stem and the characteristic red-russula shape and stature.

Slightly more interesting: it has occasional lamellae. A lot of russulas have none.
