Really, I could have saved it had I recognized the importance. I was without a way to dry mushrooms at that point, though I had considered the prospect. I had not set up any drying rack since I just arrived in the Bay Area.

ah, this was three years ago! that explains it…

all’s forgiven. you can’t save everything, and eating any amanita when you were just starting out would’ve been foolish.

cute shot tho, and despite the fact that it’s artsy fartsy rather than taxonomically revealing, it probably IS a protecta…

Yeah, sorry I set the wrong date and then got distracted and forgot to correct it!

At the time all I knew was that it was an Amanita, I didn’t realize that it was at all rare since I had only been to the Bay Area for less than a week at that point. Later that evening I identified it, but still had no inkling that it was rare or I would have absolutely saved it.

yeah, probably, despite no cap shot!

that stocky stature and chevroned stipe is quite distinctive…but how about that November date, girlfriend??!

and no herbarium specimen? c’mon! no excuse, unless you ate it…they are apparently edible, tho too rare for me to wanna fry ’em…I never munched down on my whooping cranes either, altho I heard that they were delicious, too…;)

Cool photo Curecat!

I love the way it pushed up that clod of dirt without getting its gills dirty. Those gill edges also look really cool!

The second photo is a bit odd… Good to see you Kitten :)
