Observation 22979: Russula crustosa Peck

Notes: Ok I’m going to try and start giving some description. On this group i took about 30 specimens to work with. Cap Size average 6 to 15 cm Cracked into small patches. Cap is con vexed to plane some older specimens depressed. Many full of maggots. Color Tan to light brown to pinkish brown. Gills close together White in young specimens off white in older more mature specimens,stalk 4 to 10 cm long white firm, brittle. Flesh brittle to crumbly in older specimens. Oder pleasant to sweet. Taste pleasant so pleasant i took some and fried them in a flower and egg batter They had a taste reminiscent to Egg Foo yung so i made Egg foo young out of them. Found under a mature stand of White Oak, growing gregariously. Found with R.aerigomea and a red Russula that i have yet to identify. Spores round amyloid warts about 9×5 microns. Spore print off white on some to yellowish on other made 6 prints..
