Observation 2298: Hygrocybe acutoconica (Clem.) Singer
When: 2006-01-16
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This hygrocybe confounded me last year. It was quite large—-3" wide and about 4.5" tall. There was no blackening as it aged.Sadly, my note taking wasn’t so thorough yet. The gills appear to be white or pale yellow. The stipe was viscid. Could it be H. punicea?

Looks like what I would call Hygrocybe acutoconica based on Arora, but which is apparently more correctly called Hygrocybe persistens var. persistens.
