Observation 23038: Amanita flavoconia G.F. Atk.

When: 2009-07-08

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Got nice details of the stem bulb, and of the veil remnant rings there, after carefully digging up the stipe base. The gill edges and attachment area are yellow! But the gill faces are white.

The yellow on A. flavoconia (and yellow varieties of Amanita cf. muscaria) comes off on the fingers … and everything else in the environment.
