Observation 23060: Suillus tomentosus (Kauffman) Singer
When: 2009-07-07
No herbarium specimen

Notes: The habitat is pine forest (mixed Lodgepole, Pinus contorta subsp. murrayana and Ponderosa, Pinus ponderosa).

No obvious veil. However, it clearly has glandular dots on the stipe. The rodent bite marks had blue green stains. Scratching the stipe caused a distinct blue-green stain after about a minute.

Used references: Based on Arora. He comments that this species is especially common with lodgepole pine. I am more familiar with S. fuscotomentosus which doesn’t stain blue.
