Observation 23127: Retiboletus ornatipes (Peck) Manfr. Binder & Bresinsky
When: 2009-07-12
Who: bryan
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This one is probably obvious to a more experience observer. A bolete. Tan to golden color cap, stipe, and pores. Slightly off-center stipe, nicely reticulated on upper half. Cap ~3 inches diameter. Stipe ~4 inches, thickening toward the cap. Spore print yellow/ochre. Flesh yellow, non-bruising. Taste seemed bitter to me. Found on moss-covered ground under mixed mostly hardwood forest near drainage. Cap was dry, but we’ve had little rain.
