It was just a guess! Yours is probably the better guess because you are much more familiar with the local flora. The only way I’d have a chance is if I could see the underside. But if you’ve seen these things a thousand times, and are used to what they look like in this habitat (that’s key!) then I’m totally willing to believe you can guess well even just from a photo of the upper side like this.
