Recognized by sight: The soil adherring to the top of the fungus suggests this was found originally buried. That something has been nibbling on it further suggests a hypogeous truffle-like fungus. It might be a very immature Radiigera, where the radiating lines from the central columella have not yet formed. Since the specimen has not been bisected through the center, this is pure conjecture.
