Observation 23550: Gomphidius Fr.

When: 2009-07-25

Collection location: Mount Evans, Clear Creek Co., Colorado, USA [Click for map]

Who: rob hallock (mycorob)

No specimen available

Clearly a Gomphidiaceae. Stem is chrome yellow half way up when bisected —> Gomphidius.

Cap not viscid or tacky in the field, but weather has been dry. Cap appears shiny. When moistened, cap is tacky. Stem stains black. Flesh pure white except stem. Cap color not consistent with what I’m used to for glutinosus var. glutinosus.
