or another lichen close look-alike, I’d guess. This does not appear to be a fungi.

based on the general look of the needle scars. The fungi have a lichen-like look to them, but I can’t imagine what it could be. Sort of Umbilicaria-like, but that never grows on wood. Was it on the ground? Could be dead Parmelia sulcata, for instance. Just a guess.
