Observation 23718: Boletus L.
When: 2009-07-29
No herbarium specimen

Notes: growing in the crevice of a tree stump. I believe it was a Cypress Tree. Sandy soil at base. Bluing reaction when I cut the mushroom down the middle.

these yellow, blue-staining woodrotting boletes deserve a closer look.
plus, they are pretty rare, and material isn’t around very much.

please save the next ones that you find!

the ones that I have found growing on woodchips in the East Bay actually heated their substrate as they grew. they are cool, and probably edible, too.
