Observation 23778: Thelephora Ehrh. ex Willd.
When: 2009-07-10
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These are fruiting again. On July 10 I saw fuzzy mycelium patches at the site of the previous year’s fruiting, and started photographing that spot on each trip. Here are the results so far. (I’m posting this now because there are now decently-enough developed fruitbodies to make a suitable observation thumbnail.)

September 4. They’re starting to look trashy in spots, and seem to have stopped growing without getting close to the same size as last year. On the other hand a separate crop of these has turned up in distant Zone 45 (obs. forthcoming).

the bent diagonal keeps the eye moving across the entire photo. In order for a picture to generate aesthetic pleasure, the eye must be in motion.
