Observation 23816: Boletus subvelutipes Peck

When: 2009-08-01

Collection location: Lackawanna Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave in NE PA

No specimen available

So far I haven’t found many of our typical red pored boletes that turn KOH blood red (on the cap surface). It’s consistently more of a “mahagony red” color (to use the terminology of B/R/B). Red tomentosum at stalk base…? I see lots of different color examples (as I had mentioned in a prvious post)… yellow, red, white, orange.
