My friend who found these said that the color is accurate.

My guess is that the color got distorted somewhere along the way, either with a camera setting, possibly tungsten lighting setting used in full shade, or maybe the color was adjusted during photo processing. The photo just doesn’t look natural.

Red and brown tones seem to be missing from the photo.

It certainly looks like a Fistulina but none that I am familiar with….

There has been described a Fistulina rosea and a Fistulina guzmanii but I think this one is a new one…altho it is a sort of miracle that this conspicuous species shouldn’t have been detected before…

If it has separate tubes, like a bundle of straws in a box in a restaurant, with space between each one as well each having a hollow center, then it’s Fistulina. If it has pores but not like that, then given its stemless growth from wood it’s some other sort of polypore. If it is smooth or bumpy or wrinkled but lacks pores, gills, or anything like that, then it is more like a stereum (though I’ve never seen one form shelves that thick before!).

amazing color…what about the texture?

WHooh, is that the real color?

but can’t see any pores, gills, or hymenium of any kind. I wouldn’t call the coloration purple, though. Violet? Fuchsia? Hot pink?

pretty purple shooms
