I found these mushrooms on a high ridge top under mixed hardwoods. There were about fifty or sixty of them fruiting in an area of about 100 square feet. I do not recall a distinctive smell.

Conditions were perfect for mushrooms this week, but I just started a temporary job in a book warehouse, and I’m taking care of three dogs for a friend who is on vacation, so my hunting time has been limited. I did not spend much time with these mushrooms.

The job is a real drag, standing at a table opening packages of books all day, for eight dollars an hour , while an untold number of glorious mushrooms spring up and fade away on the hills just outside the warehouse door. There is a cute girl who works there though, so it’s not all bad :)

Yes, Tricholoma
