I collected these under Red Oak in CT in one of several spots where this mushroom fruits sporatically. Years go by and this mushroom is not to be found in CT and then some years it seems to be all over. I’ve collected it under Scarlet Oak as well. These unique boletes always seemed Xerocomoid to me in appearance and I never really “got” the placement in Suillus. I’m pleased to see the recent generic circumspription honors Ernst Both who inspired me to study boletes many years ago.
but when I have found it it’s been in oak-beech forest in eastern CT
Under oak or beech, would that be correct Noah?
