Observation 2455: Datronia Donk

When: 2007-02-16

Collection location: Howarth Park, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)

No specimen available

Notes:
I hate to open this can of worms again. But I’m doing it anyway. Arora says this doesn’t occur much in “our area” so maybe I’m wrong. I feel confident that it’s not Lenzites betulina! Maybe it’s Daedalea quercus? But it has all that pink on it. And it’s moist and kind of corky feeling, not tough and dry. It has no upper surface to speak of as it’s growing on the bottom of the log. There’s some oak, bay and madrone nearby. Can’t tell what the log it’s growing on is.

Daedalea grows like a bracket fungus. This one looks like a crust: maybe Datronia.
