The cap of this little mushroom is about the size of a quarter. It was growing under mixed hardwoods in a remote part of the national forest.

The two photos show a very interesting mushroom for which no North American name springs to mind. More information on color changes, odor and chemistry would be useful if future collections are found. The veil suggests Agaricus section Arvenses while the size suggests the sister section Minores.
