not distinctly bitter also not the red in the stem base

This is not a bolete I’m familar with but to all appearences it seems to fit the Dick & Snell description of the cracked cap variety of Boletus calopus.

something like Boletus rubripes. But I’m getting a little out of my range, I don’t know my west coast boletes that well…
