Notes: I found these puffballs on a short hike the day before I left Athens. They were growing from a large pile of slag in an abandoned strip mine that had been planted with rows of pine trees. All the trees are thin and sickly, and I suspect few if any will be alive five years from now. I do not recall seeing a puffball like this anywhere else.
