I agree, the bad odor doesn’t make sense. It has been dry for a few days. Would that do it?

Also, the cup-like connection of the branches seems unusual.

unpleasant odor doesn’t fit. Also, darkened frond tips are a bit out of character. Maybe abnormally developed Sparassis? Had a period of dry weather preceded the harvesting of this mushroom?
