Specimen available

Found scattered and in groups on the ground, in leaf litter, over a large area in a mixed hardwood forest. Long strands of the mycelium was clearly visible on the underside of the leaf litter. The tops of these puffballs measured approximately 3cm in diameter at the widest point, andthey averaged about 5cm in height. The crowns were somewhat dimpled, with minute tan or brown hairs and coarse, rounded protusions, giving a sandpaper effect. The hairs are longer and denser towards the aperature, which appears to be greyish tan in color. The spores are olive-grey.
