Observation 2629: Clavulina rugosa (Bull.) J. Schröt.

When: 2007-02-26

Collection location: Howarth Park, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)

No specimen available

I don’t think this is C. cristata. I’ve seen numerous specimens in this park and they’re always one to three branches and all rumpled looking. I’m going by Arora, who seems to consider C. cristata a group which C. rugosa is a member of. This specimen is 8mm thick and about 5 cm long. It was found among hardwood in a fairly well-shaded area.
