Collected near the home of Phil Carpenter. Identified by sight and smell.

Keys out as L. fragilis in Mushrooms Demystified, but according to Methven’s section on Lactarius in Agaricales of California L. rubidus is the correct name for the maple scented Lactarius that occurs in California.
