Habitat: Secondary young mixed wood and bushes, in shade, partly protected from direct rain by tree canopies, rather cool and humid place, no sun for about 6 month per year, average precipitation ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 6-8 deg C, elevation 840 m (2.750 feet), alpine phytogeographical region.

Substratum: Cut down Picea abies stump, not much rooted, partly still in bark.

Place: Zadnjica valley, East Julian Alps, Posočje, Slovenia EC

Recognized by sight: The black stem, regular pores, and radiating fibrils on the cap make this a likely identification. It’s something very close anyway. :) Nice pictures too, showing all the characteristics!
Based on microscopic features: spores all look pretty much the same in the genus Polyporus.
