Growing on the side of a decaying, fallen oak trunk and nearby in the soil (probably attached to buried wood) and noticeably attached to wood chunks in the soil. There is a progression in cap color from dark brown to a much lighter brown. Note the white partial veil and hint of veil remnant on stem.
