From the Landcareresearch website:

Whether that makes this observation unique or not I’m certain you’d be the better judge, but it would appear that M. candidus has, in fact, been reported from NZ, if I’m not mistaken.

I’m almost certain this is an undescribed Marasmiellus species, it comes close to M. vaillantii apart from the form of the stipe, M. candidus has not been recorded from New Zealand yet so it’s possible that this could be a new record for that species in NZ.

as of dec 13, 4:45PM PST, someone has drive-by torpedoed both proposed names into the negatives. If not M. candidus, Marasmius sp. is certainly a safe bet for now. What gives?

It is considered to be absent from the region according to the Landcareresearch site, it does resemble that species closely but is probably a closely related but undescribed species.

I don’t think

that M. candidus occurs in NZ.
