I was smart enough to have recognized the slightly depressed cap, as Paul graciously believes. Truth is, I’m just not that good at identifying above-ground fungi.

I still can’t figure out why my mind said Melanoleuca: something about the semi-viscid cap, pure white gills and kind of stout, thin stipe for a mushroom this size. Thanks, Irene!

I beleive it’s a Melanoleuca too, but narrowing it down to species isn’t easy.
