Observation 28319: Ganoderma resinaceum group
When: 2009-11-17
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: Well Mushrooms season just about over in the East at least the West Virginia area. All I am finding are Polypores. So for a while i will be posting lots and lots of Polyporeacea’s These where still fresh. Growing on Maple. Kind of an interesting place These where literary on a rocky bank of the New River growing from a well dead Maple. This area was like a little micro habitat. Where the river hit he rocks it would splash and create like a mist zone or splash zone Along with G. Lucidum there where several other small fungi on this tree. These specimens where somewhat fresh. Usually by now Most of the G. Lucidum and G tsguae to decay by now.

Recognized by sight: Ganoderma resinaceum sensu lato can be distinguished from Ganoderma lucidum by its sessile nature, brownish instead of whitish context, and spores of the smooth type compared to lucidum’s rough type. Ganoderma lucidum is restricted to Europe with a debatable extension into China.
