Notes: Found at base of tree. Mild sweetish odor, and sweetish slightly bitter taste, faintly peppery (like a russula). The mass of fuiting bodies emanates from a central thick base/stalk which branches into multiple stalks which are tawny buff in color, becoming brown as they elongate. The surface of the cap is smooth/velvety in appearance, margin is basically straight. Flesh is white. Spore surface appears chanterel-like with veined, blunt forking ridges. The spore appear tawny to tawny/orange.
The closest I can key it to is the thelephora group, but the margins do not appear notched at all.
