Notes: Description to be added
Amanita karea is easily confused with A. nothofagi. When I went digging through the herbarium collections I found that A. karea had generally been called A. nothofagi. This included the type material of A. nothofagi which was a mixed collection. Amanita karea has a non-appendiculate cap, marginate to marginate-depressed bulb to the stipe, and the bulb has a rim of powdery volval material, and ellipsoidal basidiospores.

Beautiful picture, I think its lovely!
Beautiful figures Geoff, I,m sorry, the specimen I told you about had rotted and was no good for making a collection but I’m certain I’ll find this species again next season, this observation will be very helpful in the comparison of micro characters!
