Observation 29018: Armillaria (Fr.) Staude

When: 2009-10-21

Collection location: Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave in NE PA

No specimen available

I have collected honeys for many years, and never really got into the habit of questioning the species ID of any given collection. Local collectors around here call them “puhpink’ees”, which is a variation on a Polish word. I have read on Tom Volk’s website that a dozen or so species have been identified. This large cluster surrounds a low cut stump. The caps show some mustard yellow tint.
