I think Lentinus should be growing out of pretty much solid wood (like logs and branches, not chips).
Also, I see a redwood twig in the photo, so it is possible that a fairy ring around the redwood has a couple of fruitbodies out on the perimeter in woodchips.

Spores should be ornamented with amyloid warts if it is Leucopaxillus.
